Terms of Service
Last updated: 22 June 2026
Please read these Terms of Service carefully before creating an account on Labhair Còmhla. By registering, you agree to be bound by these terms.
1. About Labhair Còmhla
Labhair Còmhla (“Speak Together”) is a community directory for Scottish Gaelic speakers and learners on the Isle of Mull and Isle of Iona. It allows people to create a public profile so that other Gaelic speakers can find and approach them for conversation. The service is operated by Struan McDonough.
Labhair Còmhla is a browse-only directory. It does not include messaging, direct contact, social feeds, algorithmic recommendations, follower lists, or any other social networking functionality. Users cannot communicate with one another through the platform.
2. Who can use the service
You must be 16 years of age or older to create an account or appear in the directory. By registering, you confirm that you are at least 16 years old. If we discover that an account belongs to someone under 16, we will delete that account without notice.
There is no minimum age requirement to browse the public directory without an account.
3. Creating an account
To create an account you will need to provide a valid email address and choose a password of at least eight characters. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity that takes place under your account.
You must not create an account on behalf of someone else without their explicit consent, or impersonate any person.
Please use your real name and a genuine photo of yourself. Labhair Còmhla is a community built on trust between people who may meet in person.
4. Your profile and user content
When you create a profile, you:
- confirm that the information you provide is accurate and relates to you personally
- confirm that you own or have the right to use any photo you upload
- agree that your profile will be publicly visible to anyone visiting the site, including people without accounts
- understand that your profile may be found via internet search engines
You can edit or delete your profile at any time from your account settings. Deleting your account removes all your personal data from the directory.
You retain ownership of any content you upload. By posting content, you grant Labhair Còmhla a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display it on the site for the purpose of operating the directory. This licence ends when you delete your account.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Labhair Còmhla to:
- post false, misleading, or defamatory information
- impersonate another person
- upload photos of anyone other than yourself
- post content that is offensive, harassing, discriminatory, or unlawful
- attempt to extract personal data about other users for any purpose other than arranging Gaelic conversation
- use automated tools to scrape or copy the directory
- attempt to circumvent or interfere with any security features of the site
Labhair Còmhla is provided as a tool for genuine language community connection. Any use that undermines that purpose, or that causes harm to other users, is prohibited.
6. Reporting and moderation
Every public profile includes a “Report this profile” link. If you believe a profile breaches these Terms or causes harm, please use this link to alert us.
We review all reports and will take appropriate action, which may include removing a profile or suspending an account. We are not obligated to notify you of the outcome of a report, but we aim to respond to all reports promptly.
We reserve the right to remove any profile or suspend any account at our discretion, including where we believe Terms have been breached, without prior notice.
7. No communications
Labhair Còmhla does not provide any mechanism for users to message, contact, or interact with one another on the platform. Any contact between users happens entirely in person or through channels external to this site. We have no responsibility for interactions that take place off-platform.
8. Intellectual property
All design elements, copy, code, and branding belonging to Labhair Còmhla (including the name, logo, and interface) are the intellectual property of Struan McDonough and may not be reproduced or used without our permission.
User-generated profile content remains the property of the individual who posted it.
9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Labhair Còmhla is provided as a community resource, free of charge, on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We make no warranties as to the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of profiles submitted by users.
We are not responsible for:
- the accuracy of any information provided in user profiles
- any in-person meeting or interaction arising from use of the directory
- any loss or damage arising from your use of the site
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you in connection with the service shall not exceed £100.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by Scottish law.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post any changes on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. For material changes, we will notify registered users by email with at least 14 days’ notice before the change takes effect. Continued use of the service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of Labhair Còmhla shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
